Who it’s for
We work with women in East London who are unemployed or on a low income, who face barriers to work but are interested in working in craft and using their creative skills. Barriers may include lack of previous work experience, low educational qualifications, low confidence, English as a second language, childcare or other caring responsibilities that make it difficult for them to find suitable work. You may be from a migrant or refugee background or you may have experienced sexism, racism, Islamophobia or xenophobia. We are a safe and supportive space for women to build a community, grow confidence, gain skills and access flexible, fairly paid employment.
What we offer
We run a free maker training course where you’ll learn everything you need to know to become a maker with us. You’ll learn how to make our shoes, to pack up and send out orders and to teach our workshops. Once you graduate from our course, we offer opportunities to earn the London Living Wage (or above) making products and teaching our workshops, with flexible hours and plenty of support. We can also offer support with the process of becoming self-employed and with understanding invoices, and we can refer you to partner organisations that can help you manage your finances and benefits.
What we ask
We ask that you commit to coming to our weekly Wednesday morning sessions for the full duration of the training course, which is approximately 12 weeks, and to be open to learning and respectful to others.
How to apply
To apply to join our maker training course, email Sabeha at [email protected] with information about how you meet the above criteria. Please note that we may operate a waiting list for maker training courses when there is high demand.
